1. WHAT DOES KOÇ UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS OFFICE OFFER TO STUDENTS?

The International Education and Mobility Programs, established under the Koç University Office of International Programs, allows you to study one or more semesters (Fall/Spring/Summer) at our global partner higher education institutions during your undergraduate, graduate or doctorate studies at Koç University. Erasmus+, Erasmus+ Worldwide, Global Exchange and Summer Exchange are the exchange programs Koç University Office of International Programs (OIP) offers to all KU students. Furthermore, the students can apply to Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ Worldwide Internship programs and benefit from the funding opportunities for their internships abroad.

You can study in one of our 290 global partners, spreading to more than 60 countries such as The Netherlands, Germany, The United States, Thailand, Canada, Japan, China, The UK or South Korea without paying a tuition fee to the partner university for the exchange semester. The courses that you will take at the partner university during your exchange will be planned with your Faculty Exchange Coordinators and advisors prior to the start of your exchange semester.

Each student, provided that the student matches the application and selection criteria, can apply for all exchange programs (Erasmus+, Erasmus+ Worldwide, Global Exchange and Summer Exchange). The students who apply for Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ Worldwide programs will have the right to receive Erasmus+ grants allocated by Turkish National Agency. Koc University OIP also offers scholarship opportunities for Global Exchange applicants who meet certain criteria to receive scholarship.

OIP is also responsible for the procedures of the incoming students to Koç University from our partner universities abroad.

2. WHEN CAN YOU APPLY FOR EXCHANGE PROGRAMS AND WHEN ARE THE RESULTS ANNOUNCED?

Global Exchange Applications:

Applications are opened in the first semester of the academic year (from September to December). If there are remaining quotas after the first round of applications, additional application calls are planned and announced to students.

How to Apply?: Students can apply online through the KUAPP system (https://kuapp.ku.edu.tr)

Minimum GPA to apply for Global Exchange is 2.50 for undergraduate; 3,00 for postgraduate students. The students must have one of the minimum language scores of Koç TOEFL 550/TOEFL IBT 80 or 6.5 IELTS in order to apply for the program.

Where can the students see the universities suitable for their department? From the OIP website (https://oip.ku.edu.tr), Mobility Programs, Institutional Partners List, you can see the list of our Global Exchange partner universities by using the filters on the page.

Each of our partner universities has up-to-date information on the OIP website. On the partner pages, you will be able to see where the partner university is located; which faculties and departments are under our agreement; websites, most recent fact sheets, the minimum GPA and minimum language scores that the student must have in order to be eligible to apply for an exchange program offered by OIP. Documents required for online application are specified on the website.

The students can do their research on the universities they want to study according to all the information provided on our website and complete their applications for the exchange programs.

You can see the courses that you can take during your exchange semester on the websites of the partner institutions. You can also consult your academic advisors for course equivalency and transfer procedures.

Results are announced both online and via mass e-mail in December.

Erasmus+ Exchange Applications:

Applications are opened in the second semester of the academic year (from February to March). If there are remaining quotas after the first round of applications, additional application calls are planned and announced to students.

Our outgoing students will be able to receive the grant based on the budget given to our University by the Turkish National Agency.

Results are announced both online and via mass e-mail in March.

Erasmus+ Worldwide:

Erasmus+ Worldwide is a program that enables students to participate in Erasmus Study Mobility in countries outside of Europe. The institutions that are open to exchange within the scope of this program may vary each academic year.

Applications are opened in the first semester of the academic year (from November to December). If there are remaining quotas after the first round of applications, additional application calls are planned and announced to students.

How to Apply?: Students can apply online through the KUAPP system (https://kuapp.ku.edu.tr)

Minimum GPA to apply for Erasmus+ Worldwide Exchange is 2.20 for undergraduate; 2,50 for postgraduate students. The students must have one of the minimum language scores of Koç TOEFL 550/TOEFL IBT 80 or 6.5 IELTS in order to apply for the program.

This exchange program is established with the European Union countries and the student must plan the courses amounting to 30 ECTS credits.

If the students meet the eligibility criteria and get selected, they receive a fixed monthly grant for the duration of their exchange, regardless of their exchange destination. They will also be eligible to receive a travel grant based on the distance of the partner institution.

Results are announced both online and via mass e-mail in January.

Erasmus+ & Erasmus+ Worldwide Internship Mobility:

Applications are opened twice (January-February and April-May) throughout the academic year. The specific dates are announced one month prior the the application start.

How to Apply?: Students can apply online through the KUAPP system (https://kuapp.ku.edu.tr)

Students can apply for the program if they are accepted for an internship in Europe, at an institution suitable for their department. The internship must last for a minimum of two months.

Minimum GPA to apply for Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ Worldwide Internship Exchange is 2.20 for undergraduate; 2,50 for postgraduate students. The students must have one of the minimum language scores of Koç TOEFL 550/TOEFL IBT 80 or 6.5 IELTS in order to apply for the program.

Our Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ Worldwide internship students will be able to receive the grant based on the budget given to our University by the Turkish National Agency.

Results are announced both online and via mass e-mail in March and June, respectively.

Summer Exchange Programs:

Applications are opened in the first semester of the academic year (from September to December). If there are remaining quotas after the first round of applications, additional application calls are planned and announced to students.

Research Mobility Program:

Koç University students can also participate in the research mobility program offered by partner institutions during their education. While some partner institutions receive applications during certain periods, some institutions accept applications through open applications throughout the academic year. 3. HOW MUCH ARE ERASMUS + & ERASMUS + WORLDWIDE STUDENT LEARNING MOBILITY GRANTS (2014-2021)?

Erasmus+ Worldwide Grant Amounts:

Students who will participate in Erasmus+ Worldwide program at one of our partner institutions are eligible to receive a monthly grant of 700€. In addition to this grant, they are eligible to receive a travel grant. The amount of the travel grant is determined by calculating the distance between Istanbul and the destination country.

4. WHAT ARE THE INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS? HOW CAN I APPLY?

Koç University students can earn credits by joining OIP’s short-term (3 to 5 weeks) summer programs that international students also attend on the KU campus. OIP also organizes short programs abroad for KU students. More information on these programs is available here:

KU students can also participate in summer-term overseas volunteering projects and programs organized by OIP. Detailed information about these programs can be found by clicking here.

In addition to these programs, Koç University Global Learning and Leadership Program (GLLP) is a program that aims gaining personal and professional competencies based on experience, global perspective, which is offered in addition to the academic program at the undergraduate level. In this context, GLLP is provided with the coordination of the Office of International Programs, within the Dean of Student Office. 5. HOW CAN I COME TOGETHER WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?

Office of International Programs (OIP) enables KU students to experince a cultural exchange and get together with international students by offering several opportunities with its programs and activities.

Mentorship to Incoming Exchange Students: Koc University students can be a part the exchange journey of incoming exchange students by being a mentor to them. Students who are volunteer for the role need to apply on time and pass the interviews.

Koç Guides: Koç Guides is a cross-cultural program that aims to offer international and domestic members of Koç University to engage in various cultural and commonplace activities together with the assistance of International Community Office (ICO) and students that work with ICO. ICO is a subdivision within the Office of International Programs (OIP).

Turkish Coffee Hour: This is a weekly conversation club led by volunteer student and faculty member(s) of KU for everyone (including families) on campus who would like to practice spoken Turkish in an informal setting. No sign up required.

International Student Community (ISC): KU students can take part in various social and cultural activities organized by ISC for international and local students throughout the semester. ISC aims to raise the awareness on the topics such as inter-cultural communication and diversity.

Activities/Events Organized by OIP: OIP organizes some activities and events to mingle incoming exchange students with the outbound KU students who have just returned to KU or who are about to leave KU for an exchange semester. This way, students can get the chance to learn about one another’s home institution, hometown and home country.
